This year, AFL Goulburn Murray affiliated clubs have explored various methods to raise funds to support their programs and initiatives. These efforts have involved joining the TAC Club Rewards Program, seeking the Telstra Footy Country Grants, and participating in the Good for Footy Raffle, to name a few.
The Good for Footy Raffle was well received this year. A record 25 clubs participated from across the region, raising a record $30,305 to boost clubs' fundraising efforts. Longwood Football Netball Club ($7,345) and Mooroopna Football Netball Club ($6,950) had terrific local support raising the highest funds in the region.
The TAC Club Rewards Program saw 10 clubs from the region receive $33,000 in funding to support and spread vital road safety messages. Both Shepparton Football Netball Club and Shepparton United Football Netball Club received $6,000, and Shepparton East Football Netball Club received $5,500.
Clubs adopted different ways to support the program and the TAC Road Safety Round. Some initiatives included match-day activations like wearing blue armbands and using blue TAC water bottles. Other clubs used social media to share personal stories of the impact of trauma, promote junior discounted driving lesson awards, and creating video messages from players and leaders from their clubs. It was great to see our clubs engaging and #bandingtogether in 2024!
In a bid to reduce the burden on our volunteers, the Telstra Footy Country Grants have been a game-changer! With a total of $86,694 shared by 20 clubs, the grants are designed to financially assist initiatives that can support Community Clubs affiliated to the AFL to strengthen the base and secure the future in three key strategic areas: Grow and assist volunteer capacity, Grow and diversify participation, and Improve club environments and experiences.
Other funding streams that clubs accessed in 2024 included the Sporting Club Grants Program, WorkSafe Club Safety Fund, Bunnings Home Ground Advantage, AFL Victoria female and volunteer funding streams, Country Footy Netball Program, Growing Regions Program, Regional Community Sports Infrastructure Fund, Tiny Towns Fund, and local council funding opportunities.
Through the funding available to affiliated clubs with these programs, AFL Goulburn Murray clubs collectively accessed nearly $150,000 for club equipment, infrastructure, and volunteer initiatives.
AFL Goulburn Murray looks forward to supporting affiliated clubs to access the available funding opportunities and maximising fundraising programs in 2025.
