Rewards for Clubs Committed to Road Safety

The Transport Accident Commission’s 2024 Club Rewards Program is back, allowing grassroots football and netball clubs to earn a share of $600,000 in funding by participating in the mission to eliminate deaths and serious injuries on our roads.

Club Rewards, in its fifth year, allows football and netball clubs to apply for rewards of up to $10,000 when they promote road safety to members during the season. The TAC’s partnership with AFL Victoria provides a connection to regional Victorians urging them to prioritise road safety ensuring everyone gets to training and games safely.

As part of this year’s program, clubs will be asked to start conversations and be part of the campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of speeding, with the tagline – Show up for your team. Slow down on the road ”.

AFL Goulburn Murray Regional Manager, Shaun Connell, said, "It's been a horrid few years on the roads across the Goulburn Murray region and overrepresented in road fatalities. Forty-two people have lost their lives on roads in the Goulburn Murray footprint, impacting families, friends, communities, and local emergency workers and volunteers who attend these accidents."

"Just last month one of our staff was involved in an accident on her way to a trainers course for volunteers, thankfully only suffering minor injuries to her back and time off work. The TAC is currently supporting Sammy to get her back to work and minimise the impact of her accident on her life."

"In addition to supporting the AFL Victoria and TAC Club Rewards program, AFL Goulburn Murray is partnering with Moira Shire and RoadSafe Goulburn Valley to assist affiliated clubs in promoting road safety within their communities."

"We are encouraging all clubs in the region to support and promote this year's TAC Club rewards program and, in doing so, reduce the impact of road trauma in our community."

"As a community, let's work together to ensure everyone gets to and from our football and netball activities safely."

Clubs across the Goulburn Murray region will also participate in the TAC’s Road Safety Round from 19 - 21 July.
